چکیده

This early stage interdisciplinary research contributes to smart grid advancements by integrating information and communications technology and electric power systems. It aims at tackling the drawbacks of current demand-side energy management schemes by developing an agent-based energy management system that coordinates and optimizes neighbourhood-level aggregate power load. In this paper, we report on the implementation of an energy consumption scheduler for rescheduling “shiftable” household appliances at the household-level; the scheduler takes into account the consumer’s time preferences, the total hourly power consumption across neighbouring households, and a fair electricity billing mechanism. This scheduler is to be deployed in an autonomous and distributed residential energy management system to avoid load synchronization, reduce utility energy costs, and improve the load factor of the aggregate power load.

Game-Theoretic Energy Management for Residential Users with Dischargeable Plug-in Electric Vehicles

The plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) has attracted more and more attention because of the energy crisis and environmental pollution, which is also the main shiftable load of the residential users’ demand side management (DSM) system in the future smart grid (SG). In this paper, we employ game theory to provide an autonomous energy management system among residential users considering selling ener...

End-use Appliance Control Technique for Domestic Peak Load Management

Several peak load management strategies are being widely employed in the residential sector, due to increased energy consumption and peak demand. The residential peak demand is very prominent and largely depends on the interaction between occupant’s energy consumption behaviour and appliance usage, hence the need to address end-use appliance usage based on consumer utilization pattern. This pap...

Appraisal of compliance with land subdivision planning regulations in residential neighbourhoods

Although previous studies have attempted to address the challenge of land subdivision, there is still a scarcity in the literature on how the extent of conformity to land subdivision planning regulations may be statistically and spatially analyzed. This study, therefore, explores the extent to which residential developers comply with land subdivision planning regulations in Kenya, a case study ...

Deriving U.s. Household Energy Consumption Profiles from American Time Use Survey Data – a Bootstrap Approach

This paper presents a novel approach to derive U.S. residential building energy load profiles. This approach uses bootstrap sampling method to extract daily activity pattern of occupants of a household from American Time Use Survey (ATUS) data. The characteristics of ATUS data, the relation between time-use and load-demand, and the robustness of this approach are discussed. Virtual experiments ...
